One of the most valuable workplace skills we can develop is the ability to share our ideas clearly, confidently and persuasively.
And yet it's one of the most common areas of professional life that is under-developed. The result is that too many good ideas go unshared, too many good people go unheard, and too many teams and organisations remain unaware of the untapped intelligence in their midst.
Based on more than 20 years of communication training and executive education, I can share some of the proven principles and techniques that will encourage greater contribution and more persuasive presentation of ideas. This has enormous value for presenting ideas whether it's to colleagues, clients or stakeholder groups.
This program can be presented in various formats, but incorporates the following components:
Developing Your Persuasive Presentation. There's a lot more to an effective presentation than a deck of slides and piles of information. Clarifying the purpose, structuring, identifying key messages, editing content, and developing compelling introductions and conclusions are all vital considerations. Participants are expected to bring a presentation topic for development and delivery.
Delivering Your Presentation. The presenter is as much a part of the presentation as the content. In fact, it's their presence and manner that shapes the audience's experience of the presentation and enhances or hinders their understanding. Managing yourself is key amplifying the message.
Rehearsal and Feedback. Because people often don't feel great about presenting they tend to neglect rehearsal. That means that their presentation to the audience becomes the rehearsal. Dangerous! Rehearsal and constructive feedback is a power-up for presentation skill and confidence. And in a group setting it also taps into the power of teamwork as well as providing a rich shared learning experience as the group observes different approaches and techniques.
Showtime! The workshops conclude with an opportunity to present the final product.
